H2C4TW

About 10 months ago I splurged and ordered the Bambulab H2C 3D printer, and for 9 months it's steadily chugging along here. It's not printing non-stop, but it feels pretty close to that sometimes. I've printed mostly PLA, but also TPU, ASA, PETG,

Raiders of Arismyth - another year later...

Last year in August, I declared the rules of my new own RPG to be done. Hah. Turns out, I still had a few ideas and thoughts in me: * I tinkered with how Armour and Shields work * The whole system moved from "here's a skill list with

Prepping for a game session

As much as I love being an “improvise first” game master, I do fair bit of preparation ahead of planned game sessions. At the very least, I have a decent diagram that shows me the different factions, events and locations. For example, here's two graphs that I set

My journey to Write Freely

Ok, story time kids. Once upon a time, I decided I needed a blog. That time was 1996 or so, and I hosted it on whatever I could, posting whatever came through my mind. The whole thing moved from hand coded html to hand coded active server pages, to hand

Cruising

Let's talk about Cruise Ships. Due to a combination of my dads bucket list, my moms aversion to flying and the general wish of families to occasionally do things together, I've found myself on one of those, because the alternative was a very long road trip

Obsidian as static site generator for my roleplaying game

For a while now, I've been tinkering with my own roleplaying game, Raiders of Arismyth. One of the things I realised early on was that I need a good way lookup rules and other information quickly. Find the proper tables, skill descriptions and so on, and to be

Writing a roleplaying game

As you might have noticed, I've been busy in my free time with my completely self-written new roleplaying game "Raiders of Arismyth". Unlike "Mail Order Apocalypse", which was me applying a wild hair setting idea to an existing ruleset, this project has a

Self Descriptions made Easy

I have a "Manual of Me" in my professional e-Mail signature for a while now. That describes when and how to reach me, and how I communicate or set tasks. What it doesn't do in depth or any detail is describing what I'm

I'm not a Warhammer player, but...

...I unironically like the old Warhammer 40K universe depictions and canon. You know, the Rick Priestley, John Blanche era. Where everything was bad, grimy, gloomy and evil. This is peak Leman Russ, as he should be: Not this: Warhammer 40,000, as depicted and conceived in the 80ies absolutely was

I'm writing another game!

It is a few months since I finished Mail Order Apocalypse, and apparently, writing games is a tiny bit addictive: I'm already about 70 pages into writing the next game. (For comparison: MOA clocks in at 106 pages, a lot of them being random tables) So, the next

Management books you should read, and what to learn from them

I've been on a small bender on this, and this is what I learned, in short. Reading my summaries could spare you the time of reading the actual books, but I don't recommend it - they are chock-full of useful language and terms to describe situations,

Organisational Purpose and the Kano model

If you work in product management, you should make yourself familiar with the Kano model. Noriaki Kano, a Japanese researcher and consultant, published a paper in 1984 with a set of ideas and techniques that help us determine our customers’ (and prospects’) satisfaction with product features. The resulting categories have

Spam everyone and use your filters

For over two years now, polypoly is working as a remote-only company. Most of the time, this works well, but there are of course wrinkles and roadblocks. The major one is in how and where we communicate. We have all the tools: Email, Chat, a wiki, a ticket system,

Hacking Runs for Fun and Profit

A key element of modern games is often the heist, caper, or in the case of cyberpunk-esque games, the "run". The common part here is that the target is usually a complicated and large system, full of people, computers, security systems and other components. In movies and

My 3D printing setup
